How we rank the U used cars

Our rankings of used cars are based on the consensus opinion of the top experts of the American automobile, and the reliability, security and total cost of ownership data for third-party rankings do not rely on our own tests or preferences of US News editors.
We classify cars based on an overall score that combines the scores of the components below in a weight weighted average formula are derived from the results of a survey of purchasing used cars made by U S News.
