myth of German reliability Bimmerfest BMW Forums

ISN # 39; Does God just a projection of our culture? Tim Keller Veritas [2 11]

Although I have not experienced real problems with my 335d, I'm terribly nervous about the CBU specter hung over.
I have owned other German cars, Japanese cars and several mostly Land Cruisers; and the article really hit home with my experiences.
That's an interesting perspective by the author with me hits home and objective reasoning indicates that I should sell now because carbon buildup was just removed the Subjective reasoning told me to continue my love affair with the 335d such a dilemma.
I think the article is a good point, but also missing a key question there is a difference between reliability and maintenance.
The CBU on the 335d is an engine reliability problem does not need to be cleaned every 60k miles is a design flaw to have to change a timing belt in a car with a belt instead of a chain n is not reliable, it is the maintenance you have to it could be considered a reliability problem Perhaps, but cars usually have lower prices belts because they are cheaper.
Blowing a shock after hitting a pothole is not a reliability problem.

Over the last 3 years of owning my 2003 Passat wagon, he was in the store often enough and people always told me he was like a reliable car it really wasn t VW just decided that they should conceive most things that need replacement routine needs to be replaced at intervals staggered every 2 miles and still 5k due between oil changes.
The only two problems I had was really a blown shock and a cracked radiator after a woman sustained in me The only problem I had power, I was in the store 4 times CEL was on again and several times they even a specialist flash the entire software at the end because they could not understand care to guess what the specialist has found mechanics didn t reconnect corkage and ot was sometimes connected and sometimes depending on if you touch a mechanical bump that recognizes it didn t cost me a cent.
On the other hand my neighbor drove an older citizen loves his children and is the reliability it has a giant oil stain on the driveway, it belches black and blue smoke, now is if a person def could hear his car isn t reliable, it just doesn t pay for any maintenance.
In the service manual when he listed exactly what had to be replaced if I have not will restore the thing failed on the maintenance point vs. Reliability.
The worst car I ever owned reliability wise 1998 Ford V8 exploder should probably have had LEMONed but it beautifully lead after the motor powertrain, transmission, drive shaft and the two axles and air conditioning, heater and radio, all replaced under warranty in the first 18 months, then he led for 8 years only having to replace the engine on the roof of the moon, the radio again, another unit AC, the cruise control unit thingy and the edge of the group after the mechanical spindle showing me the speed that I had stopped working first and last time I owned an American car.

I think the only car never came close to the explorer reliability problems was a Renault R4 I had the shift Revolver, they had steadily declined line and allowed me to dig under the hood in reel by -10C to find the damn thing so I can change again.
Don t get me wrong, I love my D; but any car that needs to be supported by strict guidelines can not, in my book, considered a reliable model.
My car in college was a 1988 VW Scirocco 16v crapped his manual transmission accurately 5k miles past the expiration of the factory warranty I purchased a dealer extended warranty when I bought it; but by the time my car was out of factory warranty, extended warranty underwriter went bankrupt Wonder why the timing belt broke 10k miles before it is recommended to replace, taking with it the valves interior finish was crap trim parts Miscellaneous fall every so often BUT, I loved that car, I'd probably buy another if I found a good enough condition much cooler than my friends Hondas, Datsuns and Mazdas.
Instead, I bought a Lexus 300GS 99 with 70k miles sometime around 04 after reaching about 150k miles, I thought the cost of the amortized preventive maintenance on the miles that I could expect to get out of grenaded car before it exceeded the value of the car when I said grenading stop changing the oil it burned about a liter every 3-4k miles, but I never checked the oil or added up that lit the oil lamp on the dashboard, and then I throw in 3 liters of whatever quality was cheap or hang out and continue Anyway, I sold last year to a friend after taking the D still running strong with 225k miles on it CEL No No No electrical problems visible wear inside in leather in short, the car was nothing wrong at all with my friend always everyday driving and wouldn not hesitate to take on road trips tra vailler only I did it while I had been replacing ball joints, fuel pump, and a servo in the HVAC system if you've never owned a Toyota, you just can t understand abuse they can take and still function perfectly.
BTW, my most reliable built hardest required at least pamper German car I owned was a 1977 Porsche 911 with 3 0l You can t kill that one is.

Yeah and he was like to settle for a boring boring fat although no fun tool.
On Japanese cars, I got three now that I pushed well beyond 200K things go wrong, but never anything that can not wait a few months to solve this is my first foray into the German car ownership so I will find how it compares first hand, I'm sure if I drive this 328D in 15 years and 250k miles as I still drive my old 94 Acura Legend, I report here, find this thread, and you know all.
I work for Toyota, which may be a reference because I see the great difference in reliability is the Toyota calls the best of his failures party back to engineering and go through a complete process from 5 s why.
My many BMW experiences have led me to faulty vender doesn t require all manufacturers and have controls in place to quality vender BMW really doesn t care at that time because sales and silver are rising.

Have you read the machine that changed the world it is a bit old, but still an interesting read The Toyota production system is very famous, but I'm always surprised that some basic ideas still aren t used by BMW at plants such as Andon cord to stop the line if there sa problem.
How can you get away with driving a BMW and work there why not a Lexus somehow.

For the seller, it would be much much to lose to be a Toyota supplier The money flow covers a large number of improvements that you have to do internally If BMW made too many demands, then the cost of filling becomes quickly than the loss to tell them to stuff it.

Personally, I think the problems with Mercedes transmission and 7g software for it are the most disgusting and it seems that the ZF 8-speed in sporting BMW seems to have similar problems for alarms and powertrain now or buckling.
Obviously the solution is to buy a CLK55 is old enough to have their 5-speed transmission there, I showed them.
How can you get away with driving a BMW and work there why not a Lexus somehow.
I would say not more than 50 Toyota in the parking lot of Japanese donations not really see it as not being given the faithful, they seem to think I'm just a little stupid in this regard.
My family was Bimmer pilot since my grandfather hunted in early 1975 could not believe what people he had paid for these same people could not admit that he was ahead of his time.
Interestingly, I wonder if you arrive in a new BMW if it would be worse, but I suppose you could do competitive research.

Since I'm sure you can get deals on Lexus leases, and the current IS and GS were more in the drivers of cars why stick with BMWs Personally, I'd do the same thing but that's just because I can not stand the styling- but if you offered me a staff of lease incredibly cheap I could change my look.
Out of curiosity, have you considered working for BMW instead.
I know that manufacturers tear apart cars for compare Any idea what Toyota is when they demolish the current BMWs used to know a guy who worked at GM in the 90s and he waxed on about Mercedes attention to detail saying he wasn t all that impressed with the Lexus build quality was good, but nothing special.
From my point of view a lot of differences in reliability could be explained by the more cautious approach, scalable development promoted by Toyota However BMW seems to throw the baby out with the bath water more often.

In the 35 odd years with BMW that I see is the damn breed doesn t seem to respond or worry about problems on playback outs for how many years Why not resolve this issue in the nearly 20 years he was a problem of overflow reservoirs or expansion BMW These are designed to fail at 50k intervals.
My wife drove the rental car by Lexus I think for every question, he made the BMW a punishment he would.
Ha yeah its not exactly the same problems, but the themes are repeated even going back to the 70s are -Cooling problems -Electronics issues -before-end vibrations - especially dead displays of all types.
Funny they seem closely adhere to the tradition in these areas.

Never understood the cooling emits rubber hoses have the same appearance in a Honda.
I think the problem is that some non-flexible components such as pumps, sensors, expansion tank etc. Are of poor quality then you exchange a bad game and you hit all pipes and other parts that does not love and you deal with for 2 months.
Or in other words, if you randomly reattached deattached and pipes in the Honda they would fail, too, but you do not touch anything if you are well.
If I remember correctly, problems haven t been in connection with the pipes, but other -thermostats stuff, expansion tanks, water pumps, fans, etc.

To be fair, this seems to have improved in the E90 then maybe they have a corner ve.
Another excuse a little weak in the defense it is that BMW usually uses distribution chains vs timing belts on cars with belts, water pump and thermostat usually changed around 70-90k is about when these components on BMWs have tended to explode expansion cracked the other tanks.
