Before visiting the actual production facilities started, our host Audi told us some interesting facts about its various production sites worldwide As mentioned earlier, Ingolstadt is only home to the A3, A4, A5 and Q5 production TT is partly produced in Ingolstadt but shipped to Hungary for the completion of other key models like the A6, A7 and A8, including all S and RS models are produced in Neckarsulm near Heilbronn, Germany Audi seven other production facilities in Hungary, Belgium, China, India, Indonesia, Slovakia and Spain.
After the brief introduction we headed in the factory where we were taken in the press shop where metal forming tools can be found in operation The bodies of the Audi A3, A4, A5 and Q5 are all made by a selection of more than 1000 robots before workers then rise all interior parts and join the powertrain with the body This is called marriage is the most important step in the production process two systems- important processes meet here and producing at each end can not be delayed to avoid disruptions in production.
The first steps in the production of a new Audi A3, A4, A5 and Q5 is fully automated The incredible robots make the Audi plant one of the most advanced body manufacturing facilities worldwide Margins of error are minimum and full automated and manual checks throughout the process to ensure that all car body is exactly the same.
Once the bodies are constructed, they are sent to the factory at the end where they are painted in the color of choice painted Once they come back near where they began to be joined by a large group of Audi employees that work from Monday to Friday around the clock This assembly process is divided in different stations, each occupied by one or more employees who perform a task such as installation of seats, adding the wiring or coupling the power unit to the frame each station has exactly 80 seconds by car to perform its functions before the car is moved to the next station.
At the end of the line of the car is filled with liquid and the engine is started for the first time From there, the cars are brought to the loading docks to be either shipped to the dealer by rail or truck.
