I am by no means an expert on buying a car, so everything I do is give you some tips on finding used cars that are for sale first, if you need to automatic, your pickings are much slimmer, and with larger cars, generally limited to luxury models It was my experience when we were looking for a break most Germans drive cars with gearboxes It s manual no I was not driving any thing of joy-Fahrvergnügen able to learn to drive stick, but maybe you can, try, try again just to be sure.
Check your local newspaper website There are generally a section called Auto or Gebrauchtwagen which is available here s website Mittelbayrisches Zeitung as example test paper second hand also for your area, you will find the greatest deals in the past, since most private sellers will only advertise here.
Try one of the leading Internet search engines automatically throughout Europe and throughout Germany and there are some individuals who sell their cars on these sites, but it is mostly dealers.
Check the car manufacturer websites They often list the used cars at their dealerships Looking Gebrauchtwagen or Gebrauchtwagenbörse s Here is the Renault site as an example, you'll want to search for all auto manufacturers are in your region, since these are the cars have been negotiated and will be of all different makes, models and years.
Finally, and perhaps least, is to travel to all dealers in your area and check out what they have on their lots They list t always all the sites, and sometimes you are lucky and find a car who was just brought in addition, you can tell them by email and ask them to call you if something happens that integrates sure to check the opening hours Many dealers close at 18 pm on weekdays and are only open in the morning on Saturday.
Ultimately, it is a very long process type CarMax lot of used cars haven t really taken here, although I heard rumors that a few popping in the former East and northernmost so if you live in these areas, you can view the German Gelbe Seiten Yellow Pages for Gebrauchtwagen in your area.
Thank you Christina, I wondered how to buy a used car Your message helps.
Also in our area many cars are advertised in Hessen Das Inserat Sperrmüll, 2 newspapers filled almost exclusively with small ads; Ad plays for free.
I think you about overlaid We ended up buying used from a local dealership and probabaly overpaid Oh well live and learn right.
We bought from a local dealer as well, and I think we Gt a good deal that I had to learn to drive a stick, but a holiday in the Austrian Alps has helped me to quickly educate fact, we studied several dealers before purchasing and we were surprised to find that every type of car we wanted the same year and with similar mileage was the same price Apparently there is a kind of thing of pricing on cars as there are books here, it is a bit more expensive than what you can find in private, but it comes with a warranty.
One advantage that we found with the VW dealer is here with the garage on site We get our winter tires and put our lights changed They were really great and not even made us pay for some services that we can store our tire there between changes as well.
Luca I think there is also a contact on the basis that helps to get used cars, but I have no other information about it.
Diane You pay a little or a lot more from local dealers, but you also typically get a warranty and sometimes other benefits like Tammy said, so there is a certain value at an additional cost.
Tammy I did not know about the flexible pricing schedule, but that makes sense Germans are in the pricing when we exchange our car well, we obtained different estimates for the value of all the different dealers.
Doc Meyer Thanks to comment Doc From what I heard, Craigslist has not really taken with the Germans, he was great after leaving the US, so I never looked, but if someone one is looking for an auto, get a US expatriate advertising on craigslist is a useful option to check.
Dear Christina, I am a Canadian law seeking to import a German diesel car in Canada stipulates that there must be at least 15 years or older So I watched 1990 1993 BMW 325tds sedans and wagons.
I wonder if you know of dealers in Germany who speak English who may be willing to sell and export such vehicle.
Wondering if you know the process of buying a car in Germany if you are a US resident Will be in Europe for 4 months this summer and want to buy a car, then sell it before I leave Is it possible to do so and to connect and get insurance for 4 months as it seem possible in the Czech Republic, then wonder Germany Thank you Maria.
Joey Sorry, I really do not know anything about t the export of German cars, you can try looking for used car dealers in cities with US bases They probably have some experience with this.
Maria Have you thought about renting could be easier than I'm not sure the insurance, but auto dealers often register the car for you for a fee.
I am a Canadian living in Spain Many Spaniards buy used cars in Germany because they seem to be much cheaper there, I checked some websites that you promote and were very impressed with low asking price relatively new, high cars -mileage the explanation that some of my German colleagues gave me is that, in Germany, many jobs include cars on a lease of 3 years and people have put a lot of miles on their car as a result, there are many 3-year old high-mileage cars for sale that does not want because they were all new leases.
The biggest problem with these sites is the bait and the current switching; I also heard that many car dealers will announce he ridiculously much, but when you get there just to be sold and there is even a little more.
Hi, great info- just a little to add if I can I live on the net brstish expatriates here and have found in the last year at the English language Germans increased massivly so do not be afriad ringing the private seller and whether the talk chances are they speaking to, or at least they have a friend who can also positions on the same fact patterns is very vrai- especially BMW's or mercs the state offers a discount on new in Germany they are often very competitive prices here.
Also anyone who could help me the opposite question, I want to import a new Dodge Challenger in Germany and wondering the best way to do It seems that British garages want exorbitant fees for processing electroshock shipping some up 50 cars has anyone imported value of States and whether its feasable to do privatly Any advice appriciated and yet great informative site.
Thank you for the advice, Tom I agree if you do not speak German, try calling anyway If they do not speak English well enough, I'm sure if they want to sell the car pretty bad they can find someone to translate.
I guess it is possible to import your private car, but I know nothing about it maybe one of my readers can help you, thank you again for comment.
Thank you 4 ur website I did not look 4 a used car can be difficult in Germany this contrast as pleased with comments and a preview of what to expect and do.
