senior centers are highly visible focal points within their communities and provide programs and services for older people in five major health categories, including mental health, social, food, educational and recreational.
In Florida, about 260 senior centers are operated by various host organisms - such as private nonprofit organizations 67 percent, 22 percent of municipalities, county governments 9 percent, and other types of organizations 2 percent.

The most commonly reported popular activities in 53 percent of the centers are recreational activities such as bridge or card games, board and card games, bingo, dance and field trips.
The second most frequently reported popular activities in 18 percent of the centers of health activities and wellness such as exercise, aerobics, Tai Chi, health screenings and health support.
Seniors with the services most likely to be offered in senior centers are information and referral, group meals and transportation.
Eldercare less likely to be offered in the higher centers of mental health counseling, day care services for adults and financial assistance.
